The Great Cookie Debacle

Friends! Oh boy. Friday was a day and a half. It was almost like a Monday. It started off okay, took a bit of a turn, and then ended on a good note. I don’t know if I mentioned it yesterday or not, but I have been really running on empty. The yard sale took a lot of time and energy. The van being in the shop has taken a lot of energy (did I mention that a deer hit me when I was out taking photos a couple of weeks ago? No? Well a deer ran right into the front of my van and did $3,000 worth of damage! Thankfully insurance stepped in and has been a godsend, but I’ve been living out of a rental van for the past week and I really want my van back. This all came the day after I tripped at work and the day before I fell on the trail and really did some damage to my foot. But all is well. Everything is healing and will be okay in the end). Anyway. I’m running on empty. Not in a bad way but in a ‘I need to listen to myself and just take some time for myself. So that’s what I did today. I took some time off this morning and it just felt like what I needed to do for the day. I loaded the dog up and ran some errands and then stopped at a couple of yard sales. I didn’t find too much but did get some smaller photo frames for all those family photos I mentioned yesterday.

Oh! I entered some things in the fair and one of those things was my chocolate chip cookies. I knew they were due to be at the fair yesterday between 4-6PM and I also knew that the dough needed to be refrigerated overnight (or at least for 4 hours). So I made the dough the night before and then got up yesterday and made the cookies. I did some work on my website. I cleaned a little. And then I ran those aforementioned errands. I got home in time to turn around and drive to the fair grounds to drop off my cookies. Friends. The cookies are so good! Chocolate chip cookies with some ground up oats and pecans. YUM! So. so good. I was so proud of myself too for having everything done. No rushing around trying to get things done at the last minute. I had this! I get to the fair grounds, find my way to where I needed to be. Go to deliver the cookies and the person in charge tells me that the cookies I made are for next Friday. Ugh. Palm to face. I literally checked the information a couple of hours before but when I looked at the date, it did not register that it said September 12th. Oh well. I left the cookies with some of the other participants and I will try to be as on top of it next Friday as I was this go-round.

The rest of the day turned out okay. Not that the Great Cookie debacle wasn’t great, but it wasn’t ideal. I took Anna Lee on a trail run. Then I had to go to the airport and get an Uber home. I had a really good Uber driver. We had a great conversation about all the things he’s done in life and how he has an entrepreneurial spirit. I like that. I like people who take risks and try new things and don’t get locked into a 9-5 (unless that’s what they really want). I feel that way. I’ve been risk adverse this past year or so but now I am ready to take some risks. That’s why I am starting the mobile antique business. I want to try something new and this has been on my mind a lot over the past year. I was scared to take the leap of faith, but I’ve really been digging deep and finding ways to trust myself. I know I will be okay. I will always land on my feet. I always have so I don’t know why I wasn’t trusting myself with this new part of my business.

Speaking of new part of my business, I’m really excited about all my new offerings. They seem fit how I envision Chicken Librarian. I love entertaining and educating customers, but there always seemed to be something missing. I think the advocacy work that I am embarking on is the actual purpose behind why I’m doing what I’m doing. And the antiques fit because I want to share a part of history with everyone. At any rate, I’m really looking forward to this next chapter. I can’t wait to share it all with you.

‘til next time
