The Farmstead Workshops: Kitchen Edition Mustard Two Ways
The Farmstead Workshops: Kitchen Edition | Mustard Two Ways| Tuesday February 17 | 7PM
Discover the practical, approachable art of making mustard from scratch in this one-hour, live virtual demonstration. This workshop introduces foundational techniques for working with mustard seed, liquids, and seasonings to create balanced, versatile condiments using everyday ingredients.
Designed as an introduction and refresher, this session offers clarity and confidence without overwhelm.
What We’ll Demonstrate
During the live session, we’ll make two classic mustards from start to finish:
A spicy honey mustard, focused on balancing sweetness with heat
A grainy white wine mustard, highlighting texture, acidity, and structure
We’ll also cover:
The role of mustard seed varieties and grind
How liquid choice (wine, vinegar, water) affects heat, sharpness, and flavor
Balancing acidity, sweetness, and spice
Resting and aging mustard for improved flavor
Storage, food safety, and realistic shelf life at home
This demonstration focuses on process, ratios, and decision-making rather than strict recipes or precision replication.
Workshop Format
This is a demonstration-focused virtual workshop.
You are welcome to follow along and make mustard during class, though the session is structured primarily for observation, learning, and shared discussion.
All workshops are recorded.
A 1–2 page PDF with ratios, techniques, and reference notes will be emailed to registered participants within 24 hours of registration.
Questions are welcomed throughout, with the understanding that time and depth are shared across the group. For more personalized guidance, 1:1 sessions are available separately.
